Define and implement a global data protection strategy and ensure rapid recovery.
Although Data Protection on disk is today mainstream (D2D2T), disks are still more expensive than tape ($/GB) and data growth continues. De-duplication is the most effective and mature technology to reduce data volume for backup. Bull solutions improve SLA by improving retention period, backup window and data volume inside and outside the Data Centers. They globally reduce hardware costs: $/GB, networks, operational costs and risks by improving success rate and enabling easier disaster resilience.
Technology alone is only a part of the global picture. Data protection based on backup and restore is a remedial approach that addresses how to recover data in the event of data loss. It does not address in any way how to avoid loss. Preventive protection needs to be considered alongside remedial protection as part of an overall data protection strategy. Traditional backup continues to provide a first line of defence in the data protection war, and still has a place in most data protection strategies. But it needs to be part of a larger strategy of interlocking preventative and remedial data protection techniques.

De-duplication is the most effective and mature technology to reduce data volume for backup. It is particularly adapted to Data Protection of remote sites with a rather low bandwidth. This technology is often combined with data compression which is usually applied after the de-duplication.
